Artist Statement

I spent a good deal of my childhood in the backyard, turning over rocks and looking at bugs. Later, I studied Biology and worked in research. I loved the framework science provided, but my fascination with the natural world quickly expanded into a broader study of daily life. My field notebooks and sketchbooks merged.

Have you ever wondered how every connection with a stranger and every wisp of street trash somehow adds up in the undecipherable equation of existence? Artmaking is my method for sorting through these everyday artifacts and snippets in time. It allows the investigation of multiple variables and emotions at once. It is my means for conveying the weight of memory, the profound impact of the environment, and the inexplicable encounter with the holy and the mysterious.
