About: I have a history of studying insects. And I painted house flies early on in my art training. They are easy to find, perished and intricate, on windowsills. I think they grab my attention because they are simultaneously a little grotesque, and unbelievably perfectly designed. In the pandemic, when I was washing my hands so many times my skin got raw, I I noted a house fly effortlessly flying around in the kitchen in the summertime. I thought about having freedom to touch everything like that. And I made this little piece about the contradiction.
This piece won an award for Best in Drawing at the 2022 Newburyport Art Association’s Juried show.
