a series of oil paintings released September 2022
packaged in bodies

I have a habit of focusing on overlooked things, little stuff, like dead flies on the windowsill. But after the pandemic hit, something happened. It happened everywhere and often. I noticed people: in the grocery store, on the street, and in the doctor's office. I looked at my family and in the mirror. I began to focus on the overlooked parts of you and me.

“the infinity that haunts everyone and which no one can finally quell is the infinity of one’s own interiority”
-John O’Donohue, in Anam Cara, A Book of Celtic Wisdom
about this work:
This physical package of a body, with its chemicals and preferences, transports layers of particularities, plans and ideas. It carries us in and out of consciousness with a daily rhythm. It carries us into the future. And what are we? A stew of histories and genes? Whims and dreams, grit and skin? There is something more here. Like the ocean, like the cosmos, there is something infinite inside.
I find brief hints in sweet looks and in the hard corners of the mouths of strangers. I find snippets in my casual conversations and in my tiny children. I am paying attention.
These paintings are the beginning of looking a little closer;
of investigating the hidden parts of people, packaged in bodies.

the paintings:
This is a collection of 25 oil paintings with bits of collage. Most of the collage is reflective gold paper, peeping out and glimmering only when the light is just so. I wanted to release the work online as an experiment and a challenge to myself: to bring an idea to life and to share it with you, a large and disbursed audience. The work is loose. I hope you consider that an invitation for interpretation and imagination.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback - of all varieties. And thank you, as always, for taking a look.
