Artist
Elizabeth Noble
Elizabeth Noble (b. 1986) is a Boston-area painter and illustrator. She uses art to investigate her surroundings and as a way of cultivating, documenting, and seeking meaning in everyday life. Bold mark-making and an innate sense of color unify her artworks, which range from intricate drawings to large-scale, oil paintings. The artist renders recognizable subjects, depicting people she connects with, nature, neighborhoods, and everyday objects, and melds them with abstract marks and color fields to summon sensory memory and imagination.
Elizabeth grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Studio Art (cum laude) from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in 2009, and moved to New England in 2010. Field and lab notes from scientific work led to sketchbooks. Over time, visual exploration and documentation became a way of life and the core of her painting practice. While Elizabeth pursued a career in science and business, working in agricultural research, clinical research, retail and biotech operations, she built a creative practice after hours. In the pandemic, that practice buoyed her through periods of isolation, an employment disruption, and early parenthood. Elizabeth pivoted to pursue a full-time creative career in 2020. Her practice combines commission and personally guided work and she is an active member of the Malden Sketch Group and New England Experimental Art Group. Elizabeth’s mission as an artist is to encourage others to find meaning through creative practice and art. Most days, you will find Elizabeth walking her neighborhood with her two small kids and painting in her home studio, located in Wakefield, Massachusetts.
