About: I found a shopping list outside the Berklee School of Music in 2013. From the looks of it, someone was planning to buy one of everything in a Seven 11 grocery aisle… The list tickled me and I wondered about the author. I started looking for and finding handwriting everywhere. I collected a substantial number of shopping lists at Trader Joe’s in 2015. During that time, candidate began campaigning for the 2016 presidential election. I was stunned by the idealogical and political division that began to surface. And when I looked at my pile of lists, I saw forgetfulness, a trait we all manage.

We are all afraid of forgetting the sugar, and the olive oil. Meanwhile, we are all often forgetting the needs of our neighbors, forgetting to learn and prioritize gratitude and kindness. For me, the lists began to represent our similarities and our limitations. They also hold a lot of character and story. I painted an image of that original Berklee list on a collaged heap of other lists and found handwriting. I framed that original list too. The painting and the framed list are a cute duo. They are simultaneously humorous and deeply human. The works are professionally framed in hardwood.
