March 2022

“red bribe”

It must be spring cleaning season, oh and Lent, because improving upon personal habits is what I find myself focusing on. My letter is about taking out the trash. Don’t worry, it is full of gory detail and sure to entertain.

These days, art isn’t feeling sexy as it sometimes can. Instead it is about practice, about delivering, and about keeping personal commitments. I’ve completed another big commission so the print of the month is once again a little painting I’ve made for myself after the patron work. My 2 year old is obsessed with cars and trucks. This 1971 MGB GT Coupe is my personal favorite of his dozens of Matchbox cars for two reasons:

1. This little red guy kept us occupied for over an hour of shopping at Market Basket.

2. Look at him. I’d wear red lipstick every day if I drove this thing in real life.

Sending along this little print as a reminder of childhood delight. After all, we are all just ex-babies.

for your focusing

I made you each a viewfinder. It is a simple and ancient artist’s tool to help you make a composition from whatever you are looking at.

Every time I use one, I’m humbled into remembering that I have to edit out lots of interesting things to increase the impact of my subject. Sending it along to give you a new view of your everyday scenes.

Happy March.

print certificates

Each month I include a print certificate. Should you decide to gift your prints to another art lover, it will supply all the context - explaining the archival nature and printing process, the details of the original, and any framing notes.
