August 2023

I spent the beginning of the month in the middle of Wisconsin, at the edge of a lake. I had a few quiet moments in nature and my kids played endlessly with their cousins.

I hunted frogs (unsuccessfully) and went fishing with PopPop and two little people on the pontoon. Even more than the jet skiing and the wine with my wonderful siblings (I know, I know), I loved exploring the mucky edges of the shore best. The trip was a call to a million memories of time spent poking around in nature at the edge of lakes.

I painted a little piece immediately upon returning to the studio. It is called At the Edge of Big Sand Lake. It is your print this month. And the letter has some good stories from those childhood and college lake memories.

To make the experience a little more visceral, I sent you some fake fishing worms, the kind I would have surely purchased and sorted again and again in my tackle box as a kid. I was sentimental and almost giddy packing this one up.

I hope this mailing feels like time at the lake and helps round out the end of your summer.
