Print Club: November 2023

November, but in December

Oof! I am late in getting Print Club into your hands this month. Thank you for your patience! You will be receiving a print of Chickadee on Bittersweet, for November’s Print Club in these first days of December. I am sending it along with some matching place cards that you can cut out and use if you host a meal this winter.

It feels like I just wrote about the end of summer and we are on the cusp of winter. Fall, like spring is so transitional it seems to go even more quickly than other seasons. With the leaves gone, and the insects quiet, I am noticing the birds more often. There is always something new to see even as nature tucks in for a nap.

Thanks to your feedback, it has become clear that the stories behind the artwork are as meaningful to viewers as the little strokes that make up an image. So recently, I adjusted my print certificates. At the top of each one, I’ll share why I made the piece and what it means to me. Read the context, if you enjoy that kind of thing, and know that the story of the work will travel with the art if you gift it.

About the piece:

My mom wanted a bird on her Christmas card in 2022 to go with her Christmas dinner theme. I love designing for her because we have such similar taste. Making this little piece felt like painting for myself. When I designed it, bittersweet was popping and a Chickadee took residence in my side yard bushes. I just painted what was present. Seeing birds outside my kitchen window reminds me of my Grandma Joy too. So here’s a cheerful, little, early winter piece for you that reminds me of the women who came before me.

I have an ode to snow queued up to send you next week! So I’ll sign off and be in your mailbox again in just a few days.

With love from the studio,

Liz
