Print Club: December 2023
December 2023
I painted this little painting, titled “Minnesota,” in October 2023 for a holiday card design and then the piece was in the studio and accompanied me into winter. The photo, supplied by my friends Aubrey and Sarah Savage, reminded me of my kids initially. But it began reminding me of many snowy childhood memories. There were snow forts and luge tracks and quiet walks in the dark. I wrote you a letter about those memories and even found some photographic evidence to share.
January and February are usually snowy months in the Boston metro. Before I skip ahead to solidifying my 2024 goals I am remembering the quiet and rare moments of stillness that winter will bring. I’m savoring memories of those moments and planning to enjoy the ones that will come.
I’m also writing you from Lincoln Nebraska as I wrap up a holiday in my hometown. And I’ve been away long enough to unwind and miss my paint brushes. I have some ideas for big and colorful abstracts and lots of curiosity for what the next weeks will bring. But mostly I’m enjoying taking a mental and physical break. Wishing you some stillness and peace for the end of the holiday season and the weeks ahead.
